Tyler H. Goodwin holds degrees in both Music Performance (Trombone) and Music Composition with a minor in Film Studies from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. He also a current Masters in Music Performance (Horn) student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where after he will be pursuing at Doctor of Musical Arts degree in the Fall of 2021

 

While Tyler writes for many types of ensembles across the country, he specializes in composing for concert band, orchestra, and chamber groups.  Over the course of his career thus far, he has studied composition under Jay Bocook, Mark Kilstofte, Alejandro Rutty, Mark Engebretson, David Maslanka, Steven Bryant, and William Bolcom.  As a prolific composer and performer, Tyler is a member of ASCAP, The American Composers Forum, and the International Horn Society.

 

In addition to his many duties working as a freelance composer, Tyler is an avid performer in various regions of South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia working in symphonies as a hornist or trombonist, depending on the gig.  As both composer and performer, Tyler enjoys teaching a private music studio with students of all skill and experience levels from many unique backgrounds.  If you would like to get in touch with Tyler to commission a new work or to take private lessons or to seek out a hornist/trombonist for a performance, you are encouraged to use our contact form below.
